Joseph Robinson RIBA Part I

My Story

An architectural assistant with a burning desire to achieve and to understand that way in which both people move through spaces and how they will actually be utilised. Having a vision of being a themed attractions designer, I am constantly wanting to make any project become an experience. The need for fun and enjoyment within people's lives is something of a necessity- this is particularly noticeable following the COVID-19 pandemic. Why should designing be any different? I strongly feel that with the skills and tools I have at my disposal, I should always try to meet and exceed and wants and needs of clients and employers. The design world should be about fun, enjoyment and a passion to produce artwork that can excite the user/ viewer.

Having come from a construction background, I am particularly interested in detailing and technical development of designs which has been further instilled by the rigorous and highly commended technical team at the University of Westminster.

Other projects include the development of an immersive theatre experience, a Cosmist Rocket Factory and revolutionising the way we live following the Pandemic. With this range of vision and desire to push myself, this will only be enhanced throughout my career and is something I wish to input into any design project. As the Creative Director for Harley House Distillery, I designed a comprehensive package for both an Art Deco brand and a Steampunk brand that showcased the spirits that the distillery makes. These designs have been highly desired and have recently been entered into the IWSC design category.

As an individual with a heavy desire to design themed attractions, regardless of the task in hand, the importance to me is to create a narrative that reflects both the project and the people who use it. Whether it is Architectural Design, landscaping or graphics, the importance to me is to maintain the narrative  throughout a project.

During my degree at Westminster, I was never a student to sit back and create something to fulfil the needs of the grade boundary I desired. I always pushed to create projects that excited people and moved away from the conventional. This led me to producing a fully functional app that directed the Google construction site at Kings Cross, London, allowing the user to navigate and understand the process of creating a building of such magnitude.
